Our History

Our History

In 1998, Managing Partners Dr. Stan Upchurch and Dr. John DiPasquale founded a group of physicians who shared a vision of bringing high quality emergency medical care to East Texas. Our founding partners began actively recruiting physician leaders to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview with the goal of establishing an emergency medicine practice that would be exceptionally skilled, highly respected, and active in the local community.

As a result of continued success, our company expanded to Marshall and Kilgore, further enhancing our ability to provide services to the East Texas populace. From an initial small group of physicians serving approximately 40,000 patients per year, we have grown to include over 40 physicians and mid-level providers, caring for over 120,000 patients annually through our four emergency departments.

Our physicians are active in local hospital administration. We serve on key medical staff committees and boards throughout our community. Four LEMA physicians have served as Chief of Staff at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center. Several of our partners are involved as physician leaders for indigent health clinics in the East Texas area.

LEMA is proud to present our new EXCEL Emergency departments to the East Texas Area. EXCEL is giving our population more options to access the high quality emergency care provided by our LEMA team. Excel locations are in Longview, Nacogdoches, and Texarkana.
