Longview Community Overview

Longview has a population of 80,455 and is located 2 hours (by car) east of Dallas and one hour west of Shreveport, Louisiana. There are four public school districts and a variety of private schools. The greater area supports four universities including: LeTourneau University, Kilgore College, Longview Campus pf The University of Texas at Tyler, & East Texas Baptist University. It is primarily a "blue collar" town with large manufacturers responsible for a majority of employment. Good Shepherd Medical Center is the largest with 3200 employees. Longview is well known for it's Southern hospitality, there are over 150 local churches and it is a great place to raise a family.

The Institute of Healthy Living is a world class health club and rehab facility managed by Good Shepherd. It was built to foster community health and wellness. There is a large gym, free weights, circuit training, adult fitness classes, pool, sauna, hot tub, cafe, and full service spa. The onsite daycare is free while you are using the facility.

LEMA (at members expense) provides physicians with the opportunity for membership at Pinecrest Country Club. There is a large pool as well as tennis and a well manicured 18 hole golf course to enjoy. There is no food or drink minimum with your membership, unlike many clubs. You’re only responsible for purchases. The pool is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day and is staffed with lifeguards at all times. During the summer the club also offers summer day camps for kids that many of us enjoy. In addition to Pinecrest, there are three other local golf courses.

Family friendly sports and attractions include youth baseball, soccer, gymnastics, martial arts, swimming, golf, tennis, football, basketball, biking, Pinecrest summer camps, walking trails, greenways, Kidsview playground and much more.

Longview is only a short, two hour drive to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex where you can enjoy the vibrant cultural and art districts, PGA golf courses, limitless shopping, and Big 12 college sports. Dallas is also home to the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars, and FC Dallas Soccer.
